SFIM Resources Collection

We know not all can attend vigils or protests, so below is a growing collection of resources of ways we can engage and encourage and become more active in our communities.   We hope to continue adding to this list as we learn more.

Have a great resource or information not listed, email it us at sfim.officemgr@gmail.com

NOTE: Organizations on this list are not connected to SFIM and the inclusion of an organization on this list does not constitute a recommendation by SFIM Please research organizations before contacting them, giving them personal information, and/or donating funds. Thank you.

Video: How Can We Win w/Kimberly Jones“On Saturday May 30th filmmaker and photographer David Jones of David Jones Media felt compelled to go out and serve the community in some way. He decided to use his art to try and explain the events that were currently impacting our lives. On day two, Sunday the 31st, he activated his dear friend author Kimberly Jones to tag along and conduct interviews. During a moment of downtime he captured these powerful words from her and felt the world couldn’t wait for the full length documentary, they needed to hear them now.”

Support America’s Oldest Black Bookstore - Marcus BooksLocated in Oakland! According to a Guardian article from May 15th, their GoFundMe started in April, had not even gotten 50% of it’s $200,000 goal, while City Lights met its goal of $400,000 within days. It looks like the upwelling of support for Black-owned businesses has helped them exponentially as they have surpassed their goal by almost $5000 as of June 4th. But friends, let’s be serious here - this is the Bay Area with it’s crazy rents and even with Covid-19, gentrification marches on - so let’s give them an even greater cushion for later down the road. White Supremacy Culture by Tema Okun“This is a list of characteristics of white supremacy culture that show up in our organizations. Culture is powerful precisely because it is so present and at the same time so very difficult to name or identify. The characteristics listed below are damaging because they are used as norms and standards without being proactively named or chosen by the group. They are damaging because they promote white supremacy thinking. Because we all live in a white supremacy
culture, these characteristics show up in the attitudes and behaviors of all of us – people of color and white people. Therefore, these attitudes and behaviors can show up in any group or organization, whether it is white-led or predominantly white or people of color-led or predominantly people of color.”

First Steps To a New Normal

As we inch back to a more "normal life” – its going to be different, we need to keep in mind that the virus will still be around for a while.  Its not the time to be caught off guard and let our body and immune system get weak.

So, let’s review some tips that will help keep our immune defense mechanisms at their highest level and keep us healthy in the midst of these new changes.

Lifestyle essentials:
  • A healthy immune-support diet includes a good amount of proteins and nutrient-rich fruits & veggies.
  • Exercise (while respecting the social distancing orders) can boost your immune response and keep your blood oxygenated.
    • Washing your car for 45 minutes to an hour.
    • Gardening for 30 to 45 minutes.
    • Raking leaves for 30 minutes.
    • Dancing for 30 minutes.
    • Walking 2 miles in 30 min
    • Low impact biking: 5 miles in 30 min
    • Walking stairs for 15 min
  • Try to decrease the stress response that brings up cortisol and adrenaline, two hormones that will impact the production of our natural killer cells. Try yoga, listening to soft music, meditation, anything that helps you relax will work.
  • New to mediation? Feel like you're "doing it wrong"? If the new age spin on meditation puts you off and you are looking for a more scientific approach, we recommend the free pocast/app/youtube videos: 10% Happier. Dan Harris, the author, is a news anchor who found meditation and is a great guide for those of us who don't understand what "soften your mind" really means.
  • Get enough restorative sleep which is important to stay strong and healthy.
Supplements for immune support (available in office, mailed to you, or via wellevate):
  • Our top trio Vit C / COLOSTRUM / GLUTATHIONE
  • We also have tailor made medical herbal formulas to meet your exact needs. Please contact us and schedule a quick phone appointment
  • For those who don't like taking pills we've got Immuno Chews and Wellness Syrup from Taproot Medicine
  • Vitamin D - researchers are trying to figure that out the benefits of Vit D. There are at least 8 studies are listed on clinicaltrials.gov to evaluate vitamin D's role in preventing or easing COVID-19. Pre-Covid we've known that vitamin D can modulate the immune system and needed for calcium absorption.
  • Peptide n1 Thymosin Alpha to boost your "natural killers cells," the “navy seals” of your immune system which are able to bind to the virus and deactivate it.
  • Custom made herbal formulas to match exactly where your body is.
