Supporting You on a Path to Full Recovery

Dry needling is a therapy that effectively treats myofascial pain syndrome, which affects about 44 million Americans, and accounts for 85-95% of the cases in a pain clinic. Dry needling works to deactivate tight, ropey, tender points in muscle tissue called trigger points, the major cause of myofascial pain. This deactivation of trigger points not only reduces pain, but has been shown to improve mood, increase function and range of motion, and decrease the level of disability. As acupuncturists doing dry needling, we also to use knowledge of qi and blood movement through the channels, and needling expertise to optimize each treatment

We are pain specialists who strive not only to treat the symptoms of your acute or chronic pain, but also to address the root cause of your pain and prevent the problem from spiraling out of control. We have safe, effective therapies that offer maximum benefit with minimum risk. These approaches go far beyond alternative medicine. They represent the emerging, evidence-based standard of care used by pain specialists nationwide.

WHAT CAUSES TRIGGER POINTS?

Trigger points result when a muscle is overloaded, either suddenly or chronically. All people have at least a few trigger points, given that so many common situations cause them. Potential causes of trigger points include:
  • Maintaining an awkward position too long
  • Poor lifting habits
  • Carrying an overloaded purse
  • Bad posture
  • Sitting on a wallet in the back pocket
  • Hitching up your hip to carry a child
  • Sitting at a computer for too long
  • Any type of repetitive motion
  • Poorly designed shoes
  • Limping
  • Falls
  • Car accidents
  • Structural anomalies (short arms, one leg that is longer than the other, an asymmetrical pelvis, etc.)
The birth process itself causes trigger points and, unless they are treated, trigger points tend to accumulate over time. Much of the stiffness and many of the aches and pains that we tend to accept as a normal part of aging are likely caused by the large collection of trigger points that most people have amassed by the time they are senior citizens.

Pelvic Floor Acupuncture Therapy for Men and Women

The pelvic floor can be explained as the muscles and ligaments that are attached to the pelvis and support the abdomen. These muscles are responsible for controlling bladder and bowel movement. A study revealed that roughly one-quarter of US women are affected by pelvic floor disorders. Pelvic floor dysfunction is the most common problem that can be explained as the inability of a person to control the muscles of their pelvic floor. As a result, patients may experience symptoms such as difficulty having a bowel movement, urinary incontinence, pain with intercourse, pain with a climax, and many other symptoms.
If you have any of these signs and symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction, we can help:

  • Pressure in the pelvic region or rectum
  • Lower back pain Muscle spasm in the pelvis
